Burial for Sister Katherine Allen Combs

Katherine Allen Combs was a phenomenal woman, wife, mother, advocate, mentor, minister, community activist and friend.

Sister Katherine was a longtime and respected member of Grace Church of All Nations. She was ordained as Minister Combs, under the Bishop, A. Livingston Foxworth. The out-of-school-time program, Grace Roxbury After School Program (GRASP), was the ministry she was given. She devoted the rest of her life to it. In addition, Katherine’s husband, Dank, was deeply devoted to Katherine and would deny her nothing if he could possibly manage it. He sometimes signed over his entire paycheck to save some aspect of GRASP so, in terms of personal finances, they were always driving on fumes.

Sister Katherine was relentless in the pursuit of excellence for “her children.” She founded and carefully guided GRASP, where hundreds of children and families were gifted with her love and care. The children were kept safe and frequently had their lives enriched, they were helped academically and were guided into respectful, joyful behavior. And parents were also counseled, both formally regarding their children’s academics and informally through spontaneous heart-to-heart talks with Sister Katherine regarding family issues. One example of the web that Katherine wove: GRASP families were able to receive much needed holiday meal baskets and gifts and many families to this very day look forward to those gifts to supplement their holiday gift giving!

Our beloved Katherine fought long, but lost her battle with breast cancer on December 3, 2020. Her life insurance had not been in effect for the required 24 months, so it is unable to fund the burial of this selfless woman.

One could always count on Katherine to be there in times of need. The funeral is Friday, and the expenses for it are due Wednesday, December 9, 2020, so your generous donation will be used immediately. Now it’s time to be there for her, for we are “the hands of God.”
