This December I will be traveling to Riobamba, Ecuador to set up mobile clinics and complete a development project for a community in need. I will be traveling with MEDLife, which is a student organization on campus that I joined my freshman year. MEDLife stands for Medicine, Education and Development for Low Income Families Everywhere. The primary goal of MEDLife is to provide resources for those in need locally, nationally and globally. I've participated in many of the local activities but now is my chance to help globally!
While in Ecuador I will go through five different medical stations, some hands-on, while others are shadowing opportunities, to take part in providing medical care to those in Riobamba who can not afford it. Our group will also help with a development project which will somehow better the community in a public health aspect.
With your help, I will be able to travel to Ecuador and provide these resources to those in need while gaining great experience in the medical field. One of the major reasons that I plan to go into medicine is that I feel that all individuals should have access to some degree of medical care and those in under developed countries should not be denied this due to their socioeconomic status or the socioeconomic status of the country in which they reside. By going on this trip with MEDLife, I will kickstart that dream.
