Service Dog for US Marine
Donation protected
Our son Armando is a US Marine who needs a PTSD service dog. Armando wanted to serve and protect his country and the values we all hold dear as Americans. He served in Afghanistan for eight months and returned home in the Fall of 2018. For the last two years Armando has struggled with PTSD and all the associated problems that come with this diagnosis. Since his return from deployment, he has not been the same kind, joyful and driven person we all knew. Today he is trying to rediscover his way back. He is currently getting treatment and as part of his long term care plan, he needs a service dog that will help him better manage PTSD, anxiety and depression. Service dogs are specially trained with skills to assist the veteran.
Service dos are often trained to:
Disrupt nightmares
Provide crowd control immediately around the veteran
Assists veteran by guiding out of a perceived unsafe situations
Provide deep pressure therapy to help calm the veteran during extreme episodes
Ground veterans who are experiencing extreme panic and bring them back to present
Interrupts harmful behaviors by physically interrupting action
Remind veterans to take medications and retrieve them if needed.
The typical wait for a donated service dog is 18 months. These dogs are expensive costing on average up to $25,000. Armando has loved dogs since he was a small child. We believe a service dog will provide the best long term outcome for Armando and will allow him to regain independence, drive, and the confidence needed to live a happy life.
We understand that these are difficult financial times for many of us and simply ask that you help if you can. If you cannot give at this time, we simply ask that you give to another service dog program in the future when circumstances are better.
Forever grateful,
Pedro & Sam Cáceres
