Jacquie and Moose Adventures

Donation protected
My beautiful daughter, Jacquie, who will be 20 years-old on February 5th, has been fighting a form of Muscular Dystrophy, called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, since the age of two.  She had a personal goal of graduating from 8th grade on her feet, which she did, and since then has been weakening from this degenerative disease.  She is a sophomore at Providence College and very engaged in campus life.  She's a member of Student Congress, Friar Chorus, Leadership Fellows Program, and is majoring in Political Science & Psychology and minoring in Music.  She has been hired by Providence College this year to be the Student ADA Consultant for the College to help them determine what they need to be considering when it comes to welcoming students, and their families, that have disabilities.  Her long-term goal is to be engaged in Disability Advocacy and she will change the world!  She has applied for an Internship in Washington, DC, this summer and hopes to continue to learn what drives her passion.

Because this is a degenerative disease, that means that there is no cure and she will continue to weaken.  She uses a wheelchair or scooter to get around, and even though she is able to take care of herself, she does need more and more assistance.

With that said, it's time to bring a Service Dog into her life...and we have found Moose!  We are excited to welcome him into our family and are working with specialized dog trainers to get Moose all the training he will need.  he will be trained to assist her with such things as picking things up, helping her up if needed, helping her up if she falls, and be a companion that will keep a watchful eye on her at all times.  Jacquie hopes to study overseas during the Spring semester of 2019 and would feel less anxious about that opportunity with Moose by her side.

The cost to train him is extensive and Jacquie has been saving, but it just hasn't been enough.  Your help with this endeavor would mean the world to a young woman (and her mom) that has taught so much to so many about living with a disability and how to accept and love all those that surround you.

So many people have asked how they could ever help Jacquie, and now is the time!  I have other fundraising ideas brewing, too, but we felt this might be a good way for people to engage if that is what they want to do.  There is no pressure and we will come up with the resources needed, but if you want to be part of this adventure, here's a chance.  Thank you in advance!!  Sending love and light to all!!
