Service Dog for Disabled Veteran

My Nutshell

My name is Cynthia Fields. I'm a Disabled Veteran whose Naval Husband is constantly deployed, and I need a Service Dog who can sense my panic attacks and depression dips and stop them in their tracks.  Please share my GoFundMe and/or donate to our cause.  Every dollar and social media share helps.

My Life

I’m a 30 yr old woman with a 2 yr old son and a husband who is Active Duty Military. I served in the Navy for 5 years and was deployed to the Persian Gulf. My job was to defend the ship from missiles and torpedoes. However, while in the service, I was diagnosed with Major Depression Recurrant and Generalized Anxiety Disorder.  I still managed to serve my country and received an honorable discharge. I also received a disability rating for Depression. 



My Hope

I’ve been to doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, pastors; I’ve taken meds; I’ve practiced cognitive behavior therapy; I’ve journaled. The only thing that seems to keep the depressive thoughts constantly silenced is constant loving companionship. However, how likely are any of us to have something so extreme?

My Solution

A Depression and Anxiety Service Dog is the answer I’ve been looking for. I've been working with a wonderful female doctor for over a year, trying different ways to help me improve, and she recently asked me, “Have you ever considered getting a Service Dog?”  The answer seemed so obvious!  I’d thought of it once but didn’t know it was possible for someone like me. My doctor assured me that not only was it possible, she thought it was medically necessary. 

My Need For Your Donations

Properly trained Service Dogs from “for-profit” organizations are upwards of $40,000, “non-profit” are $17,500. The wait list can be years long. Once you’re selected, it’s another 2 years for them to pick and train a dog for you.  I need HELP NOW.  My husband is being sent to sea, and I CANNOT WAIT for help when I have a 2 yr old to care for.

Thankfully, I found a very helpful and generous woman near me who raises PREP SERVICE DOGS.  She has male Poodles and female Bernese Mountain Dogs and Labradors that she breeds together for a Bernedoodle  or Labradoodle mix.  The mix doubles the dogs lifespan, and the puppies get the smarts of poodles and nurturing nature of the Bernese or Labs.



In 6 months, I can have a youthful, loving, and intelligent dog to save my mind and keep me grounded.  Her cost to prep one of her puppies for service dog work is $5,900 ($2,900 for the designed breed and $3,000 for boarding and training for 3 additional months).  The dog would be mostly trained already for my needs with a some more lessons needed after.  

The lessons for specific tasks cost about $150 per hour.  Your Donations would go toward the cost of the dog and the many lessons it would need to be an official service dog that can accompany me anywhere I go including the grocery store, restaurants, and airplanes.  Further lessons are commenced after the dog is 1 year old.

You Matter

Every little bit helps. Being a Disabled Veteran, stay at home Mom, and a wife to an enlisted sailor whose job has made us move 10 times in the last 3 years is not a lucrative life.  It will be very hard for us to fund this all ourselves.  Even $5 would be a blessing;  but if money is too tight, sharing my GoFundMe is help enough along with good vibes and prayers.
