Service Dog for Bruce Matthews

Donation protected
I am requesting donations to raise 5000$ for my good friend Bruce Matthews. The 5000$ would allow Bruce to get the service dog he needs in order to help him cope with his post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and have a normal life.

Bruce’s bio: Bruce served 17 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, served a Tour of Duty in Croatia, was diagnosed with PTSD in 2001 and was medically released in 2007. Because of his PTSD, Bruce has not been able to work since he was released from the military, has attempted suicide more than once for which he was hospitalized for 2 months, he is unable to go to public places where there are many people, has trouble processing his emotions, is unable to have a normal social life, unable to participate in community sports, has recurring flashbacks and nightmares and has basically been isolating himself from society.

In September of 2017, Bruce participated in the Toronto Invictus Games, an event created by Prince Harry to help ill and injured veterans overcome their injuries. Bruce’s performance earned him a few medals but most of all, has greatly helped him in his recovery process. He no longer thinks of suicide as an option. He recently got married to his beautiful wife Terri-Lyn, he’s a father to a wonderful 22 year old daughter and both him and Terri-Lyn are expecting a child shortly.

Bruce has been on long waiting lists for service dogs and finally has an opportunity to get one but must go to the USA, at Alpha K9, to get his service dog. The requested 5000$ in donations would cover his expenses for the trip, the training with the service dog and administrative fees for certification and paperwork allowing the service dog to comeback to Canada with him. With the arrival of their new child, Bruce’s savings have gone to prepping the house and getting all the necessary items a baby requires. For obvious reasons and priorities, Bruce does not have the money required to get the service dog.

Bruce has once more found the will to fight against his illness, as he wants to be the best father possible to his children, best husband possible to his wife Terri-Lyn, best friend possible to his buddies and finally, to not be defined by his PTSD. The service dog would be an instrumental part of his recovery process and that is why I am asking for your kind donations.

For your consideration. Thank you.

Please note that there is an urgency as the dog is presently available.
