Servant of the Shepherd Church soberhouse

Donation protected
In March 2020, our church Servant of the Shepherd purchased another sober house to take in addicts/alcoholics that are trying to turn their lives around. The church thought that this property was tax exempt at the time of the purchase and opened it's doors to taking people in immediately. We found out recently that the property is not tax exempt until 2021. We are having to find the financial means to come up with the $7,000 tax bill before the end of January to keep our church sober house open and running.
Servant of the Shepherd church is one of those rare churches that is Christ based AND recovery based at the same time. They open their doors 24/7 to the outcasts and the broken, and when there's not room in the sober houses they literally put out a mattress for homeless addicts/alcoholics to stay in the basement of the church. They've never once booted someone out of their soberhomes due to the inability to pay for their room. They take the broken and get them back on their feet. They help give them the tools, resources, love and support in recovery to be successful. This work and dedication is truly Kingdom work. Our church gives when it barely has the means to give. We give people a loving family in Christ when many of them have no where else to go or anyone to turn to. We serve as the hands and feet of Jesus, loving and serving each lost child of God by welcoming them with open arms.
From a personal testimony, I am an addict in recovery for almost 5years from meth and alcohol. The pastor of this church and I met at an AA meeting over 10years ago. I wasn't ready at the time to surrender my addictions to God and start recovering. I continued the downward spiral in the twin cities but this church, it's pastor and it's people NEVER stopped praying for me and reaching out to my mother to ask how I was and if they could help. When I ended up in jail a 4th time, losing my kids and homeless again, I surrendered my will yet I had no one else that would take me in or even talk to me.  Servant of the Shepherd church did. They didn't give up on me. I slept on their couches, in their soberhouse basement and was given the love of Christ through them to finally recognize that I wasn't hopeless like everyone(including myself) had deemed me. The people that run the soberhouses have stood by my side during every court date, every AA meeting I was too afraid to go to, every child protection meeting, every time I crumbled and thought I couldn't go on...THEY WERE THERE lifting me up. They fed me when I was hungry, prayed for me when I didn't even truly know or feel deserving of God, and held me during my darkest hours while God was piecing together my life. These soberhouses aren't just any soberhouse on the block because the people in them definitely don't get paid to live there or do what they do. They do it because they care. They do it because God told us to serve EVERYONE- ESPECIALLY the broken. They do it because they love others and were once broken too so they know the hell of addiction and want to help others out of it. If I pray for one Christmas miracle in 2020 it's to help this church that helps SO many! It's to help these Christ-hearted people to keep this soberhouse OPEN in the name of Jesus!
I get that it's Christmas and we're broke and it's hard to donate. Believe me, I get it. But even 10$ or a prayer for the next person to donate is JUST as powerful. Sharing this with others helps us so much too! Please pray for our church and it's soberhouse this Christmas as we celebrate our One True King. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I pray that you truly have a blessed Christmas and New Year.
