Serf Theatre Project is a developing non-profit theatre company that integrates the Seattle and Tacoma theatre communities with thorough, meaningful, and passionate work.
Cassie Fastabend and Maddie Faigel founded Serf Theatre to provide a space for adventurous work by energetic and passionate theatremakers. Serf Theatre fundamentally believes in collaborative, thorough, ensemble driven work that provides employment for a variety of theatremakers and compensation for all people working on their projects.
To begin their work in the Seattle/Tacoma theater world, Serf Theatre Project has created their Salon Series in correlation to their playwrights workshop, blending a variety of playwrights, anywhere from experienced writers to up-and-coming artists looking to expand their skillset together, and matching these writers with actors to get their writing on its feet during the drafting process. Serf is very proud of this group and the work they are producing together.
Serf’s premier full-length production is a modern translation of a Chekhovian classic, Uncle Vanya. Serf brings warmth and accessibility to the internationally beloved Uncle Vanya, a story of constant and destructive heartache. Serf Theatre Project’s rendition of the play endeavors to engage the audience thoroughly and passionately with the story of Vanya, inspiring self-reflection and a deepening of our relationships with those directly around us.
Note from the founders: All funds donated to our company will go to expenses including but not limited to paying for space, designers’ budgets, royalties for the script, and most importantly to us, compensating those who have devoted their time and talent. We believe that above all else, artists should be able to support themselves and their families in tandem with fulfilling their artistic passions and being contributing members to the arts communities around them. This is a universal difficulty with theatre arts in general, and is an issue that speaks strongly to us. We begin our work on this area of the arts world by starting with compensating our own collaborators as much as possible for their work with us.
