About me

I’m Sereen Sumner;  A 25-year-old native from the Maryland area. I am the youngest of 5 siblings with one spunky dog Tuxy. I hold a bachelor's degree in Business and a Master's in International Business with a concentration in Marketing. Currently, I work as a Management Consultant, and Web Designer for the Humane Society of the United States on behalf of animals both domestic and international.

The experience of being Miss Maryland USA would be a pivotal opportunity. It will afford me the chance to reach my fellow constituents and advocate for the various platforms I stand for while solidifying my relationship with my community and fellow Marylanders. As a titleholder, I would advocate for the awareness of animal welfare. There are so many big fights happening on behalf of animals that need our attention and support. I will also highlight the benefits of empowering women in the tech industry. The normalization of women entrepreneurs is occurring but at a very slow rate. I would utilize my platform to empower women and other minorities to pitch their ideas and avoid the dreaded impostor syndrome. Additionally, I would endorse the importance of education and strengthening access to community resources for undeserved populations.


Why me?

As a Maryland Native, I truly care about the future of my community. Maryland is an amazing state with so much to offer. Our education system is ranked number 1 for the fifth year in a row, we are located in a great location that is safe from natural disasters that plague so many other states, and our crab cakes are incontestably the best in the country :)


All jokes aside, I also realize that Maryland is an extremely diverse area and equip with my background in international business and relations, I will work to shed light on issues that span multiple demographics;  I was both inspired and awakened by this year’s release of films like Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians, I realize that representation matters and I among numerous other people are happy to see entertainers of various cultures headlining Hollywood. In keeping with this momentum, I hope to be a Miss Maryland that brings representation to women of color and of various national backgrounds to the world of pageantry.

Thank you to god and my amazing friends and family, I wouldn't have afforded this opportunity without your support. Today, I ask you for your contribution to this new journey. All proceeds will go towards dues for pageant weekend and pageant preparation (ie. hotel, meals, prize packages for winners, etc.)
