Separation of a set of Conjoined Twins in Zimbabwe

There is a set of female conjoined twins (Siamese twins) currently admitted under the care of a multidisciplinary team. The girls, Anotidaishe and Atipaishe are now 45 days old and their parents are peasant farmers from Banket. The twins are in good health and gaining weight albeit slowly. They share some organs but they are separable and capable of independent existence. We have already assembled an excellent team of health care workers, a large number of whom were involved in the successful separation of the conjoined twins in 2014. Harare children’s hospital is the best place in the country to attempt this surgery. It is the only hospital with qualified paediatric surgeons in Zimbabwe along with the backing of a strong paediatric anaesthetic team and intensive care unit. 

However to guarantee success with this particular set of twins there is need to re-equip the hospital with modern and functional equipment. We also need to acquire some specialist drugs and sundries that are not routinely used in the hospital.
