Gifts for Ms. Scott's C/O 2016

Hello, my name is Sinita Scott, and as you all know, I am a teacher.  This is my first year teaching senior English, and because I taught the vast majority of these students as sophomores (and some as juniors), I feel like I know each of these students and have personal connections with most of them.  I really love all the students who I've had the privilege of teaching, but I would definitely say that the students in the class of 2016 are very special to me… perhaps the best class that I have ever taught.  I remember when these students first entered my classroom, terrified of what was to come (my reputation precedes me) and many of these students told me that they could never be successful in my class because my class was “just too hard” and it was “too much work” and that they were just “not that smart.”  These same students not only rose to meet my expectations, but they far exceeded them.  I sincerely believe that I have impacted these students as a class, but, more importantly, this class has helped me grow immensely as a teacher.

Because this class is so special to me, I decided that I wanted to do something special for them.  I concluded that I am going to personally write letters to each and every one of my  87 seniors, reminding them of the things that they felt that they couldn’t do when they first met me, and all of their miraculous achievements since then.  I also want to encourage my students to believe in themselves; of all of the awesomeness that is inside of them, they doubt themselves far too much.  I plan to make these letters special (based on a theme from one of the books that we experienced together as a class) and memorable, to say the least.  I would also like to add an individual present for each and every one of my seniors.  I don’t want to give one blanket present to all of my students; rather, I would like to give each student a gift that is as unique as each of them.

This is where you come in.  I have looked into purchasing gifts for each of my seniors (based on my knowledge of their likes and dislikes) that cost around $10 each.  Since I have 87 students, these gifts would total approximately $870.00, give or take.  Additionally, I would like to put these gifts in bags “with all the fixins,” which will add a little more money to the total cost.  I believe that this will be something that each of my students will remember (if I am able to make this happen), and I hope that it can offer them some encouragement as they venture out into this cold, hard world as adults.  I plan to give these gifts on Senior Night, which takes place just before graduation (May 18th).  Any donation that you can give will be greatly appreciated!  I feel very strongly about this, and I believe that you can help me do it!  Thank you for all of your support, and I hope that we can work together to make my vision come to fruition!
