- A neighbor in my apartment complex was recently evicted and had no place for her dog. She was planning to surrender him to a shelter, but I offered to take him in—mainly because of his age and the fear he wouldn’t fare well in a shelter.
- Cheech is a 10-year-old XL Bully who’s been with me for about a week. He’s incredibly sweet, calm, and non-reactive. My 3-year-old son is autistic and nonverbal, and Cheech has been very gentle and relaxed around him. He doesn’t bark or jump, doesn’t chew, and mostly naps during the day. He’s fully house-trained, knows basic commands like “sit” and “shake,” and gets along well with cats, kids, and other dogs. He loves cuddling and prefers to sleep in bed with me.
I’ve already grown attached to him, but I’m also starting to worry about the costs of caring for a senior dog, especially veterinary expenses. I’m a single mom working part-time while caring for my son, who has multiple therapy appointments each week and needs most of my attention. We are home a lot and get some therapies at home. I would love to keep Cheech, but I want to make sure he receives the care and comfort he deserves in his senior years.
I’m reaching out in hopes of finding:
• help with medical costs for senior dogs and anything medically related that comes up for him. I’d love to keep Cheech, but I want to make sure I’m able to provide him with comfort and that he’s doing as well as possible for the years he has left with us.
