Senior Design Project- Renewable Energy

Donation protected
Hello World!

Our Electrical Engineering Senior Design group is asking for financial support to help us build a prototype of a Dual Power Generation that implements a Vertical Wind Axis Turbine and Solar Panels. We chose to pursue this project because our goal is to be part of the renewable energy movement and provide a reliable energy source to third world  countries that lack the resources. Though our main objective is to help third world  countries, it is also a goal of ours to help the people of our great nation, USA , to have an ample amount of supply of energy for future generations.  With the Dual Power Generation, the system will harvest wind and solar energy, in the form of AC and DC, respectively. With the use of power electronics it would be converted  to levels that can be used by consumers in either DC or AC. For instance, the rotor blades will capture the wind and convert kinetic energy into the hub. This will capture an AC signal. The hub is where the rotor is housed and is where kinetic energy is converted into mechanical power. Then finally the conversion of mechanical energy to electrical energy is done with the use of a generator. Our prototype will be approximately 6ft. tall, with 4 blades that will be approximately 3ft from the center of the rotor. The foundation will be our base and house the gearbox, battery, and the micro-controllers. Two micro-controllers will be used in multiple areas of the project. One, is to control the maneuvering system so that the solar panels will be in the optimal position to harvest the most solar energy. Secondly, it will assist with the Maximum Power Tracker, which will give us the ability to track and control the levels of the Dual Power Generation system. Our goal with the prototype is to be able to charge up a battery then maybe a laptop or some kind of electronic device. We will work through our progressions with the type of loads we want to power up but it is our ultimate goal to power up a household for a day which would need approximately 28.9kWh.

Any kind of help will be very much appreciated! In return we promise all money collected will be put into use of producing an efficient product.
