Hello
My name is Jason Finkelstein.
My music partner Dave Rowan and myself have spent a combined 11 years entertaining Senior Citizens in retirement residences and long-term care facilities in Ontario.
The Backstory
We have visited seniors residences from Hamilton to Cornwall and everywhere in between, having performed at over 150 residences.
We see the incredible outcome that experiencing music has on our audiences regularly. From big smiles, singing, toe-tapping and even dancing. The residents are engaged, using their minds and bodies in cohesive movement where it is otherwise challenging, and sharing positive experiences together. What’s more, they experience genuine joy with music in their lives, alleviating the all too prevalent loneliness and grief that is detrimental and dangerous for their overall well-being.
The Alzheimer’s Society of Canada as well as music therapy programs in dementia units support the fact that music stimulates the same part of the brain affected by Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
The Costs
As the cost of living increases annually, so does the cost of supporting the well-being of Senior Citizens living in care. In kind, the cost of business inflates as well for performers, and the cumulative expenses of paying for gas and for other travel, maintaining instruments and providing upkeep and bookkeeping can be overwhelming.
Unfortunately, the majority of retirement residences and long-term care facilities do not provide adequate budgets to their staff to pay entertainers to perform. Although we often hear how pleased the staff are to have us there.
How you can Help
We are making a commitment to raise funds to bring quality entertainment to seniors at over 60 residences where we currently entertain, as well as at least 35 more residences where we want to visit.
Keeping us playing in front of the residents is where your donation goes to work. We are asking for your support to help us improve the quality of life, through music, for the people who are responsible for helping build this country and raising us into good people.
