Send Tricia to WOWPS!

We all have a Tricia story. Often it involves her saving our asses when they need saving or kicking our asses when they need kicking. She is the person we go to when we need to hear the truth, even when we don't want to. We drink in her bar, eat at her table and cry on her shoulder. She is a rock. She is an institution. And she needs our help.

For those of you who don't know Tricia, here's a little backstory. Tricia Pryce Henley came to Maine by way of Rhode Island in 1996, spending time near Sunday River before coming to Portland. Many of us grew to love her as the sassy lady behind the counter at Rosemont or the best bartender at Awful Annie's. In 2009, she bought Awful Annie's and quickly turned it into what we now know and love as Mama's CrowBar.

Tricia is first and foremost a poet. She has been part of the local poetry community since she happened into a poetry reading hosted by Port Veritas just days into living in Portland. Since then she has volunteered, worked with and been an active member of the Port Veritas organization, now serving as their 2015 rep for the Women Of The World Poetry Slam (learn about the event here: http://wowps2015.com). Tricia started Poetry On Tap at Mama's in 2011 and has hosted and housed some of the best poets in the country.

From the Port Veritas website, "Tricia became nothing short of an all inclusive, free-of-charge Bed and Breakfast to the many features at Port Veritas. She housed, fed, and overall rejuvenated the touring poets of America that were lucky enough to pass through Portland. This is a service that , while recognized by the community, can only truly be appreciated by those touring poets who know what it is to live for weeks on end in their cars, over-crowded busses, and cheap motels across the nation."

In February of 2012 Tricia wrote and directed Weaving Conversations with Sky, a work that not only showcased and celebrated women in poetry, but served as the primary fundraiser that sent Port Veritas' first representative to the Women of the World Poetry Slam (WOWPS).

Those of you who have had the pleasure of hearing Tricia perform or reading her poetry know how well deserved this is. If you haven't had a chance to see Tricia perform, keep your eye out for upcoming events. You will not be disappointed.

This is where Tricia needs us. WOWPS will be held this year in Albuquerque, NM. This means plane tickets, hotel rooms and other travel expenses. Port Veritas is going to do its part to help get Tricia to Albuquerque, but we need to do our part. If all the people who have been touch by this woman give $10, we'll get to $2000 in no time.

For the beers and the good times, lets send Tricia to Albuquerque. For all the times she has listened to us when we needed to talk, advised us when we were feeling lost, hugged us when we were feeling alone, laughed with us in the face of adversity and cried with us when it all became too much, lets send Tricia to Albuquerque. For the incredible poet who has earned her place in the sun, lets send Tricia to Albuquerque.

Thank you.
