Students’ Educational Trip to Spain

A small group of high school students are seeking support to take an educational trip to Spain!
These six students have been chosen to participate in a 10 day educational, cultural, and economical trip to Spain, along with hundreds of other high school students from around the world. Coming from a low-income town in Texas on the border of Mexico, these students have been presented with an opportunity of a life time.
These students are all academically high-achieving individuals, dedicated volunteer members of the community, and outstanding student athletes. The students will participate in educational workshops that will emphasize cultural, environmental, economic, political, and community differences. The education they will receive on this trip will enable these students bring a deeper understanding and insight of the world that will help them achieve more with their local community volunteer efforts.
Many kids from Del Rio have never travelled further than San Antonio – the largest, closest city some three hours away. But these kids have the chance to travel across the Atlantic to a place rich with history and tradition, and bring back their newly gained knowledge and share it with fellow students and the community. Their goal is to inspire others to travel and to learn, to understand just how big the world really is, and to appreciate the differences.
Traveling from Texas, the first stop will be in Madrid, then on to the Andalusia region, and finally the stunning Moorish palace in Grenada – The Alhambra. These students will get to explore art, architecture, food, dance, and music unlike anything they have encountered.
So much of the world is accessible via the Internet, an App, or recreated replicas on a screen. But nothing, absolutely nothing, can ever replace the experience of travelling someplace, walking medieval cobble-stoned streets, smelling the spices of street-cart pallella, or standing in front of a priceless work of art created during the Renaissance.
Please help these students – any little bit counts. It’s wheels up in just a few short months!
