Help Nicole Teach in Thailand!

Hello :) Thank you for visiting my GoFundMe website to learn my mission.
It has long been my dream to teach kids around the world and this past year, I launched that dream by spending my summer in St. John, USVI volunteering at VIERS, a science eco camp, as a counselor. It was wonderful to explore the island with the campers and learn together about the culture, native species, and plants. As my dream took shape, I discovered that it was actually a call to make a difference in the world. Having recently graduated college, I realized that now was my time to take action.
Teaching English abroad is an opportunity to have a unique impact on the lives of children in a foreign country and culture that are less fortunate than we are. I want to share my passions with the children in Thailand to enhance their knowledge, curiosity and awareness of the English language and culture. Learning English in Thailand is crucial. It is their ticket to a better life. If they can speak English, they can break the cycle of poverty to create a greater future for themselves, their family and their community. It is an honor to be able to serve the Thai children at this level and give them the most valuable skill that will better their futures.
Not only will this experience have a tremendous impact on the children of Thailand, but it will also have a life long impact on me. In May, I graduated with a degree in Mathematics, with the intention to be a High School Math teacher. Living and teaching in Thailand will accelerate my experience and my effectiveness as a teacher. It will force me to learn more and faster than teaching in a US school. It will improve my initiative, independence, willingness to go beyond my comfort level, and my ability to adapt to new environments and challenges. It will allow me to increase my language skills, and completely submerge myself in another culture.
So, this is where I need your help! I am working with a program called Greenheart Travel . On March 30, I begin my 1 month TEFL certification course in Hua Hin, Thailand. This course is required in order to Teach English as a Foreign Language. Once the course is complete, Greenheart Travel will have a job and apartment lined up for me immediately. The total costs of this program including visa fees is about $4,000. Please help me reach my goal by leaving a gift and/or sharing this page with your family and friends! Any size contribution is a big help!
