South Africa, a country full of diversity and 11 official languages is one of beauty and pain. Many people live in tin shacks with no access to running water or electricity. Due to the HIV crisis, 12,500 children are orphaned on a monthly basis.
Ethembeni’s main aim is to bring hope and care to families living and dying from HIV in some of the poorest townships in South Africa.
I will be spending over 5 months volunteering in South Africa.
As a part of the team I would be…
In a school setting: teaching core subjects to under 12s
In a garden setting: helping local communities start and maintain vegetable gardens
In a church setting: leading worship, Bible studies and preaching on Sunday mornings
In a community centre: leading children’s activities, doing DIY, visiting families living with HIV, and leading men's retreats
