Support, Strength and Love for Cathy Mougoyannis

If you have been lucky enough to have a conversation with Cathy, you’ll find out a few things right away.  First, she is one of the bubbliest and most kind hearted women you will ever meet.  Second, the love for her family (Husband Harry, Daughters Paris and Angelina and son Dimitri)  is boundless and deep. And third, in her eyes, there is no singer in the world more talented than Jon Bon Jovi.  And while all these traits make up the very special and fun-loving character that is Cathy, more than anything, she is a fighter.

In 2006 while pregnant with her youngest daughter Angelina, Cathy was diagnosed with a severe case of Ulcerative Colitis disease.  She lost a lot of weight and was hospitalized, almost losing the baby.  Through sheer will and determination, Cathy beat the odds and gave birth to Angelina who is now a healthy and happy teen!

Her health struggles did not end there.  In 2016, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Again, Cathy fought the disease with all she had.  Sadly though, she was forced to have a mastectomy however, this did not dampen her spirits.  She continued to advocate for cancer treatment and research and showed her daughters the strength and determination that makes up a strong woman.

Her will was tested once again, this time in 2018 when she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Colon Cancer. She was hospitalized many times to undergo blood transfusions as well as IV’s to prevent or treat infections and help with her dehydration.  Her tumor had grown so large that it was obstructing the majority of her intestinal tract causing immense pain and fatigue.  Throughout this time, Cathy remained committed to her family and made them her priority.  She continued to be an active member of her Greek community, helping with fundraising initiatives and community events, as well, she continued to monitor and support her son Dimitri as he entered his first year of high school and her daughter Paris, as she began her first year of university.

After months of treatment, doctors made the decision to operate and to remove the tumor.  During the first operation, doctors opened her up and realized that because of where the tumor was situated, it would be impossible to remove it without risking her life.  She was closed up and awoke from her anesthesia to find out that nothing could be done.  She was heartbroken but knew that she had to continue to fight!  After a few more months of treatment, doctors were able to operate once more.  The ensuing surgery was a success however they had to remove the entire colon as well as her uterus .  This resulted in her needing a colostomy bag.  Admittedly, she hated the bag.  She hated how cancer had ravaged her body but most importantly, she was happy to be alive with a chance to continue to see her family grow!

A month later, her battle continued when the doctors found spots in her liver.  This would prove to be her hardest battle.  She was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Colon cancer.  This time she was not as lucky.  The cancer has spread aggressively affecting other areas and organs and she is now at a point where chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy can no longer slow down the progression. Currently, treatment options are limited or non-existent.

The Go Fund Me account is being set up to provide some financial support for her family, as Cathy has been unable to work for several years while receiving treatment.

We are thankful to Harry’s employer for being so very accommodating and allowing him to work part time while he takes care of his wife and manages her treatments and appointments. Understandably so, this has also put a financial strain for the family.

We thank you in advance for your generosity and support! We appreciate you taking the time to read this, and sharing it with your friends and family.
