Sending Love to Sue Hartwell

Dear Friends-

A quick story.  When we arrived at Kindergarten at Ross, we were ready.  Three years of preschool, 2 years of daycare before that, man oh man, we were professionals.  As it turned out and totally unexpected, we were not.  My first born literally kicked and screamed her way to the door.  Every. Single. Day. We developed a routine of sorts.  The teachers and staff would peel Whitney off my body, reassure me that she would be fine, and I would run to the car and cry.  In this dark period, there was one tremendous constant and the was the incredible Sue Hartwell.  As many of you know, Mrs Hartwell has been a Kindergarten Aid at Ross School for the past 12 years.  She would look at me every morning and in the most calming, thoughtful way say, “Courtney, she is going to be fine.”  I will never forget her kindness.

So the reason for my e-mail.  Mrs Hartwell is going through a HUGE challenge right now and although the news was shared with the current Kindergarten families, I wanted to see if there was a way of gathering the whole community as Mrs Hartwell has loved on all of our children so well.  (I am sharing this with permission)   Mrs Hartwell has been diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer known as MDS and will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant hopefully within the next month.   Now, Sue Hartwell is hands down one of the strongest women that you will meet and I know she will crush this just like she has all the marathons she has completed.  She is surrounded in love by her husband Bob and their daughter Sam and plenty of good friends and family.

I love being a part of the Ross School and would love to see our community support the amazing Hartwell Family.  They are kind and generous in every way, and on the weekends, when most of us haven’t even finished our second cup of coffee, Sue and Bob are at Glide Memorial in San Francisco serving meals to the homeless and helping in any way they can.  Please know that all the Hartwells want are your good wishes, thoughts, prayers, vibes, whatever you got.  If it is positive, send it their way.

I have set-up a gofundme page to help them cover unexpected medical expenses and time without work.

Please pass this along to anyone you think might be willing to help.

Wishing the Hartwells LOVE, PEACE and STRENGTH
