Send BGA Students to D.C.!

Donation protected
Boston Green Academy prepares students to be tomorrow’s leaders in the sustainability of our community and world. The first step in this journey--becoming informed and engaged citizens-- is the foundation of our work. BGA’s annual Project Week gives our 9th, 10th and 11th graders opportunities to choose their own adventure. Back popular demand for the 3rd year,  we (Lucia and Ashley) are offering students this incredible opportunity and we are committed to making sure our students return from their visit to D.C. with a better understanding of how our government works, why it is crucial to participate in local, state, and national elections, and how they can bring what they learned back to their communities.

Help bring our students to D.C.! Any amount goes a long way and all donations are tax deductible.

Thanks to the generous support of our extended BGA family,  last year all students were able to travel to our nation’s capital for four days. There, they visited the House and the Senate, spoke with our Congressman’s office, and visited the iconic museums that tell important stories about our country’s history, culture, and democratic process.  This year we want to open the opportunity to 16 students whose interests in government, law, and  journalism make them ideal candidates for this project and who will benefit from their exposure to the city and its treasures.

Last year, your support gave  our students the opportunity to tour the National Mall, visit the Holocaust Museum, meet with the office of Representative Stephen Lynch, observe a live session of the Senate, experience the diversity of the city’s neighborhoods, and visit the pandas at the zoo! The highlight of the trip was getting to visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Tickets are already booked for this year! We always know a trip has been successful when the kids don’t want to leave.

These are some of the reactions our students shared with us about their experiences:

“My DC trip was wonderful and such a learning experience. It reminded me that our country and our government is driven by people for people. It made me realize that I do in fact have an impact on our society and has inspired me to do so.” - Deni

“Washington DC was the most amazing trip. I never thought I would be able to go to another state. I think it is a great opportunity for students to explore different areas and learn new things about the society we live in and also the history that should never be forgotten. This trip was very meaningful, specifically learning about the Holocaust in the museum outside of textbooks. I will never forget about this trip for a variety of reasons, but mainly it was very enjoyable because of the wonderful teachers we had, and also have the opportunity to build friendships through our journey.” - Jaylene

“My experience on the D.C. trip was extremely fun and memorable. I enjoyed how we were able to go to the Capitol building and the Supreme Court. There were so many things to read and take pictures of. Personally, my favorite parts were the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial, which was cool because it has little speeches that he recited. The whole trip is something I’d do again. It was really worth it.” - Adejha

Please help our Boston Green Academy students get to Washington D.C. Your donation will make a real difference in our student's lives by exposing them to  experiences that they will remember forever.

A little about us:

We are teachers at Boston Green Academy, a Horace Mann Boston Public Charter School that welcomes a diverse body of students at all levels of ability.

Project Week  is an opportunity for students to engage in experiential learning outside of the classroom and give them meaningful experiences that they would likely not have otherwise. 83% of our students receive free/reduced lunch and a large portion of them have never traveled outside of the state or even the city.

According to our students, Project Week is, by far, the BEST week of school--and we can make it the best week only because of your support. Please join our BGA family  and help make our D.C. trip a reality!
