Send WOIS Students to Black Panther

For the last few weeks, the 10th graders have been doing work with "character" , "hero character" , and the "heroic plot". They have worked to juxtapose the Civil Rights struggle of the 1960s with the Black Lives Matter movement of today, and in making this comparison, they have discussed how best to affect social change, and who becomes the hero within his or her community. They have also been creating graphic stories that retell the final moments of the lives of people who died too soon in 2017 in violent conflict. These projects are their social justice contribution.
Hopefully, each student is beginning to see himself/herself as a hero within his/her community.
As a celebration / culmination of their hard work, and as a test of the literary formula for the heroic plot they've learned about in class, we have planned a trip to see the Black Panther on the big screen. It is my hope that you, the community, will be our heroes, and help to make this happen for all of the high school students at our school. Please, consider donating to our effort. Every bit counts.
We are hoping to raise the ticket money by March 14th.
