THANK YOU so much to everyone with donated. With venmo donations, we raised $2950.00. Vivian is so thankful for your support and will be buying her plane ticket as soon as she clears things with her professors. Thank you so much for making it possible to attend her father's funeral and, with the additional $1000 or so, for her family to help pay for the high cost of medical care that her father received. Vivian sent money to them herself during her father's illness, and that means so much to her that so many people contributed. We will be sending thank-you notes within the next few days. Vivian is my housemate, my friend, my sister in Phi Lamb. She's been a huge source of inspiration to me; freshman year we both struggled through our science courses, but Vivian always made me laugh. I know that she, as a future nurse, will one day be able to make her patients feel so loved. Reminding me that there was an end to all the science courses - that we would one day be actually helping people with our knowledge - continues to inspire me to keep pursuing healthcare.
Vivian is from Kenya and on March 28th, 2018, her father passed away. I've seen how much she loves her dad - when her dad first discovered he had cancer, she started a GoFundMe to raise money to send him from Kenya to India, where he could receive better care. She texted him every day and called him, even when she had to stay up very late to talk to him because of the extremity of the time difference. I can't imagine what it's like to have my father pass away, and even more so when he was halfway across the world, too far to say goodbye. I hope that we can send Vivian home to Kenya to be at her father's funeral. I know we can.
