An Urgent Need
The New England landscape is dotted with white steeples and picturesque churches. But look closer, and you'll find pulpits that once held gospel preachers like Jonathon Edwards and George Whitefield now proclaiming Universalism, Liberalism, and postmodernism. Halls that once echoed classic hymns stand eerily silent behind "For Sale" signs. Many church buildings have already been converted into shops and condos. And influential colleges like Harvard, Yale and Brown, now lead the way into spiritual darkness.
New England is the "new American missional frontier." Fewer than 2% of New Englanders go to an evangelical church. And with one church for every 8,000 people, it's home to many of America's most churchless cities. With the exception of Mormon Utah, the Northeast is the most gospel-parched region of the nation, with some reports of only 1.6% of the population having access to the gospel. It has been reported that you are more likely to meet a Christian in Egypt than in New England.
Why New Bedford, MA?
Having both the unique challenges of being in a post-Christian culture, as well as an urban context, establishing a church in New Bedford, MA among urban poor and middle-class requires patience and an appreciation for slow fruit. It will require committed financial partnership and a hard-working core team, both of whom are in this for the long haul. New Bedford is a city of approx. 130,000 people, with the surrounding area comprising of another 120,000 people.
There are 79 identifiable churches in New Bedford. What is not identifiable are solid and strong gospel proclaiming churches. The vast majority of these churches are Catholic, and the rest are either dead liberal churches preaching a Christ-less message, or aging orthodox churches with a gospel nobody is listening to. The need is great for Christians to live their lives with and among the people of New Bedford.
Partnering for the Gospel
Our church, The Village Church Denton, will be partnering with Grace Harbor Church in Providence, RI (about 45 minutes from New Bedford) to plant a gospel-centered church in New Bedford.
Our family has prayerfully considered the need in New Bedford, and have decided to uproot our lives here in Denton for the sake of advancing the gospel in a place where virtually no one has heard of the life saving message of Jesus.
We will keep our jobs, and will not be on staff with the church, but rather will be faithful members of the church and part of the core team getting this new church plant up and running. We are excited about this opportunity to leverage our lives and gifts for the advancement of the gospel, but know there will be challenges as well.

Although we will be keeping our day jobs, the costs of moving our family across the country are high. From shipping furniture and cars, to flights, purchasing winter apparel, and home selling costs, we want to ask you to consider partnering with us to send us to New Bedford.
Would you prayerfully consider giving $50, $100 or more towards our goal to reach people in New Bedford for Christ? We will be loving our neighbors and engaging in ministry alongside this new church in a very dark part of our country. We will be updating those who donate + ask to be updated along the way via email with prayer requests and news from our time there.

- For unity in our marriage as we deal with the stress of transitioning
- For the kids to transition well and specifically for wisdom in guiding Reaghan as she grieves certain losses
- For the right home to become available quickly
- For favor in New Bedford, for God to already be preparing the hearts of our soon-to-be neighbors and paving the way for a gospel-preaching church to be established
