My name is Timber. Many of you may know me from Oxford, MS.
I came here in 2010 seeking a bachelors degree from the University of Mississippi. Many of you have watched me struggle, and many of you have been a blessing to me. Not only has it taken me this long to get that bachelors degree, but I’m gettin’ it! I graduate in May of 2022, with a B.A. in Anthropology. But not only that-recently, I applied to a brand that represents independent fashion designers. Oh, did I mention, I started a small business? Talitha Kumi Jewels is an accessories brand I started based off the Gospel of Christ. It comes from the Bible verse Mark 5:41, where Jesus was talking to a Jairus’s daughter who was presumably dead. Two words from Jesus (Talitha Kumi) and she gets up. During my time in Oxford, I’ve experienced homelessness, due to inadequately taken care of illness, bipolar disorder. I’m not ashamed to say it. Also, I’ve spent time in the foster care system from the age of 12 to 18. From the time I became a teenager, I basically raised myself. But, because Jesus is who He says He is, not only do I graduate this year, I was chosen, as one of 70 brands out of thousands of applications, to represent independent fashion design house ‘Flying Solo’ at Paris Fashion Week in September 2022. (I won a business grant with the Arts Council of Oxford, the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council- , entitled ‘The Arts Incubator’-in 2021.) I will be debuting at Le Gallerie Bourbon in Paris. Hotel Travel expenses must be covered by me. I must raise $1300 by the 18th of January, so even if that is all is raised on time, I will be pleased. I’m telling you, my life could be a movie. This was an unexpected blessing and I’d like to thank the people who have helped so far. Money raised would help me cover supplies, airfare, other travel expenses, hotel, etc. I plan on using the gifts God gave me to advance His Kingdom, so even if you don’t choose to give, go look up that Bible verse. Thank you in advance, and Jesus name be praised.
