As you may know, our Eta sister Shari Strickler was incapacitated by a tiger mauling in 1999. Since then, she has fought her way through all kinds of medical complications with the most amazingly positive attitude that one could ever imagine. But she's been homebound, with her parents, since then (with the exception of medical trips to Cleveland Clinic). That is about to change, as Shari will be attending the Eta reunion April 6-8 in Napa Valley.
For the last two years, Shari has been browbeating her doctors about this trip, working very hard with physical therapy, and withdrawing from very hardcore pain meds to be able to take her first vacation in 19 years. (An aside: her Cleveland Clinic doctor is the pre-eminent expert in the world with RSD. When he retired last year, his last Rx to Shari was to take this trip!)
Janet Burris has generously arranged Shari’s special air travel, a scooter rental, car rental (Janet and Sherry Scircle are taking Shari to San Francisco afterwards, so Shari can get her first sighting of the Pacific Ocean), and all kinds of things that those of us who are able-bodied don't think about. Costs for all these special accommodations have mounted, and I thought I’d give the sisters an opportunity to contribute to something that will give our sister the greatest joy she’s had in a very, very long time. If this is something you would like to do, please contribute whatever you can. All proceeds will reimburse Janet for Shari’s travel expenses.
