Myles Cupp, Jonathan Ying, and RJ McKeehan have together devoted 25 years of their lives to practicing, teaching, and especially spreading the knowledge of HEMA to the public. We have been given an especially unique opportunity to travel to Minsk, Belarus to represent North America in the European Games 2019. Myles will be representing in Rapier, and Jonathan in Longsword. RJ is their main instructor/coach.
Jonathan has won multiple gold medals in longsword tournaments and is known for his consistent high-performance performance as a competitor.
Myles is a passionate fencer, a rapier enthusiast who has sought instruction from the world’s best, and a curator of multiple museum exhibits on HEMA.
While an international tournament is obviously going to be expensive (especially given that we're travelling from the West Coast), both Myles and Jonathan also need to buy all new gear to follow the requirements of the event.
What do we need?
Airfare $1000 x 3 Total: ~$3000 (Update 5/9: Flights are paid for, and cost $1,718 per person, coming out to $5154 total)
Jonathan: $200 mask, $110 pants, $400 sword, ~$200 jacket, $300 food and room. Total: ~1,200
Myles: Mask, Jacket, Pants, Sword $1450
With your help, you’ll be supporting the representation of SoCal HEMA on the international stage.
We will continue training hard, and Myles and Jonathan will represent North American HEMA to the absolute best of their ability. If we do not reach full funding, we will still devote 100% of the money to airfare and what gear we can afford.
