My name is Robin. I’m a senior in high school. And this February, I was chosen to represent the USA in the 2018 World Junior Ultimate Championships as a member of the U20 National Women’s Team.
I’ve been playing ultimate for the last four to six years, starting in sixth grade. I played on Alameda Jr. Meat through most of middle school, and as I continued into high school I joined more and more competitive teams -- California's championship-winning state mixed team, and California’s only high school girls’ team. At boarding school in Denmark, I received the honor of becoming the youngest athlete to play for Danish National Women’s Team, traveling Europe and competing at the 2016 World Championships in London.
Every two years, 24 ultimate frisbee players from the hundreds of teams and leagues across America are selected to compete under the banner of the U20 Women’s US National Team at the Ultimate World Championships. I didn’t realize how much I wanted to be on the National Team until two years ago in Seattle, Washington. I was 16 years old and at my first Team USA tryouts. I had never been asked to play at such a competitive level and I had walked away knowing I would not make the team. But I had also walked away determined to work as hard as I could and get a second chance. Two months ago in Livermore California, I got that chance. Walking back to the car after that first day, having just played with some of the most talented U20 women in the country, I felt what it was like to want to be a part of something with all of my heart.
Finding out I made the team, I was so excited. But in the weeks that followed, I began to worry about the cost. I want this more than anything, and I wish money weren’t a factor, but unfortunately, it is. The honor of representing the United States is a very expensive privilege, and at a point, there is only so much my family and I can do. Therefore any contribution, sharing or donating, is tremendously appreciated. I love this sport so much, but I need some help to make this dream come true
