Nearly 1 in 2 Canadian will get cancer in their lifetime. That is an astonishing statistic, yet somehow you never feel the gravity pull at you until it hits close to home. And when it does, it hits hard. The past few weeks has brought some devastating news to my dearest friend's Sabrina Morin's family, regarding the prognosis of her father's health.
Rick Morin's long, hard battle with cancer began back in February of 2016, after a routine ultrasound recommended by his family doctor. Surgeons later went on to remove a large cancerous mass, along with 70% of his liver.
Along with the unwavering support of his daughters, family and friends, Rick has managed to maintain a positive attitude and a will to keep fighting. His perseverance is notable as the journey he has found himself on has been riddled with obstacles. Over the past year, Rick has endured every complication and side effect imaginable, from kidney failure and dialysis, to chest tubes, home care and heart failure. The last year and a half has been filled with chronic pain, time lines and other ailments and burdens that are unwelcome accompaniments with a life limiting illness.
Therefore, I am reaching out to all of you today, to help a friend and her family in a time of need. Anyone who knows Sabrina, knows it is hard to find someone more kind, genuine, loyal and deserving of this gift.
Please help us send Rick on the trip of a life time! A time away with family and friends to make happy, life lasting memories. With a new plan in site to help manage Rick’s pain, we hope to send him away on his RV as soon as August 13th, 2017.
