Hi! I'm Megan Young. I am currently an incoming junior at Diamond Bar High School.
As president of the c/o 2019, I was given the opportunity to go to a leadership seminar called HOBY LA this past weekend. I can not even begin to explain how amazing this experience was. I got the chance to meet students my age from over 60 schools in California and develop a close family bond with my small group. We all learned about being a leader and how to make a difference in our communities. Most importantly, I learned a lot about myself. Here at HOBY, I found out what type of leader I was. I pushed out of my comfort zone, starting conversations with strangers, dancing openly, speaking in front of over 200 faces, and even leading a cheer. Leaving HOBY LA this past Sunday was not easy, and it left me in tears as I said goodbye.
Although HOBY LA is over, I can continue this wonderful journey at HOBY WLC (World leadership congress) which will be taking place July 22-July 29 in Chicago. HOBY WLC includes ambassadors from all around the globe (US, Japan, Iraq, Canada, China, etc.). The 8 days at this program will teach us about making a global impact rather than only in our communities. It will help us develop skills for accomplishing our goals and discovering our personal leadership. This is a one in a life time opportunity for only sophomores going into their junior year. After missing this chance, it will not be opened to me again any following years.
With this being said, the money raised through gofundme.com will help pay for the program fee of $1825 as well as the plane tickets to and back from Chicago. I hope that everyone will lend me their support in sending me to HOBY WLC this summer!
