Send Claire to the Glen 2018

Simple version: we all love Claire, let’s do a good thing and send her to the Glen in 2018.
Longer version (without hanging out loads of personal stuff, I hope): I met the best friend of my adult life because of the Glen four years ago. Claire has taken on and endeavored in a great deal in the last three years. Those three years have been Glen-less years for Claire. I don’t have the same relationship that she does with the Glen, but I can see what an influence and reach its community has had in her life and by extension mine. I don’t need to describe the ways in which Claire is beautiful and loves, but I want to. Claire is someone who has been closely touched by the reality of life’s brevity and the harshness that often comes with it. In the face of that Claire choses to get up every morning, breathe in and out and live with tenacity and beauty.
Claire has moved her career to a freelance based one, which is challenging enough in and of itself, but she simultaneously took on a period of parenting for a member of her family in need. The combination of these things has been like a three year uphill marathon, which at times I took for granted the exhaustion as it wasn’t my own story. In all of this I am privileged to still see Claire’s creative authenticity despite how raw the struggle has been during various passages of this chapter.
Claire and I both believe in chosen families and the Glen family is very dear to her. In 2018 I think the horizon will begin to clear a bit for her, but I want to give her something tangible that she can look forward to. She deserves it. As an addendum, her 30th birthday is coming up, so please think of this as a gift in lieu of us all throwing her the party she’d really love. (I have her address if you want to send a card.)
