Bringing Health Education to Africa
Hello everyone,
My name is Mia Wright; I am a Junior at Arizona State University and Barrett the Honors College majoring in Microbiology with a minor in Psychology. Last summer I had the opportunity to volunteer with the non-profit organization HEAL International in Tanzania, Africa teaching orphans, students, and village elders about several public health subjects with an emphasis on HIV prevention. In addition to teaching the community about hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, malaria, and HIV, I also had the opportunity to create a service project. While there we built an ambulance for the orphanage we were staying at as well as helped the high school start a health club. My goal is to return to Tanzania this summer, not just as a volunteer, but also as a leader for the new HEAL volunteers. HEAL International does not have the funds to support my return to Tanzania so any amount you can contribute will go directly towards my program fees and flight. By funding my trip you have the power to ensure that an entire community is equipped with knowledge that will save lives. Please help me be the change that I wish to see in the world.
