Self-Care kits For Rough Sleepers

Donation protected

Hi!

I am going to run 10K in Bushy Park, Molesy on the 12th of January, to raise money for people who sleep rough (people without permanent homes and sleep outside). The aim is to raise money for self-care kits.

A basic self-care kit (including a toothbrush, toothpaste, a pack of tissues, lip balm and a pair of socks) costs £2.67 to get together. The goal amount of 134 is set so that 50 of these kits could be made for 50 people. Any extra money will go towards buying reusable cotton sanitary pads/towels to donate to The Homeless Period.

I live in Birmingham, where temperatures drop to an average of 3-4 degrees Celcius in winter (across January and February).  Birmingham has been ranked worst in the West Midlands for it's homelessness rate of 1 in 73 people, which the Birmingham Mail described as "due to the perfect storm of spiraling rents, welfare cuts and a total lack of social housing."

Little luxuries mean a lot, especially in winter. Regardless of season, everyone deserves to feel thought of. I'm grateful for any amount of support, and look forward to both the run and the project!
