Selena's Happy Healing Fund

Dear friends and Family of Selena Scavone,

Many of you may already know that Selena is no stranger to hospitals and in the past has spent long periods of time under medical care. She has battled and continues to battle everything from Asthma, Diabetes, Endometriosis, Colitis, Hashimoto's Disease and many other ailments. Over the years these conditions have left her spending days, weeks and even months in the hospital.

Recently, she has been in the hospital for 2 weeks. Selena was complaining about her asthma Friday August 25th while at my house. She spent about 20 minutes trying to gather herself with her inhaler before realizing she needed a breathing treatment only the emergency room could provide.

I tried to get her to my car to get Selena to the ER but Selena passed out before I could do so and the EMS was called to transport her. Selena arrived to the hospital and was initially diagnosed with Acute Bronchitis. However, while under the care of the doctors Selena began to have fainting spells. Anytime she would get out of bed she would collapse after a short period of time standing. For instance, after being escorted out of bed, using the restroom and washing her hands she would then pass out, go blank and need to be carried back to her bed.

Because Selena is a severe fall risk she is on strict bed rest. To relieve herself she has to use a bedpan and for baths she has to be sponge bathed. As you can imagine for anyone this would be very hard, however for a young nurse this is tremendously hard as Selena can not care for herself, much less any of her beloved patients. To date Selena has undergone many tests. Every form of testing you can think of has been performed from CT scans, MRI’s to EEG’s. Unfortunately, at this time the doctors do not know what is happening to Selena.

Her condition seems to be progressing as she has not gotten up for days but still has been having fainting episodes from her bed. During these spells she passes out, her eyes gloss over and she is paralyzed. She can hear us but she can not speak or move her body. Once this happens she must be woken up which typically takes about 15-20 minutes to get her to become coherent again.

With her illness Selena will go from her normal happy self to completely disabled in minutes without notice. At times when this happens and Selena can not be woken up immediately a group of nurses called, The Rapid Response Team has to come and revive her. As you can imagine there is nothing more chilling to watch than this team of 5-6 nurses, alongside a security guard, nurse administrator and Chaplain come in, in response to Selena’s unconsciousness.

At the present time Selena is still undiagnosed. The current plan is to move Selena from the hospital to an assisted living facility where she can undergo more testing and be monitored and cared for appropriately. They are estimating it may be a month or longer before she can return home, but it is unknown when she will be able to return to work.

I am hoping by now you are wondering how you can help because with all of this going on Selena and Roy really need your support. With Selena unable to care for herself, much less return to work, the Scavone’s are truly feeling the financial burden of Selena’s illness. At this time they are accepting donations to help keep things functioning while Selena makes a full recovery. Please friends, contribute any amount you can. $5 multiplied by 100 goes a long way! SHARE this post like crazy! (YES, I’M ASKING YOU TO BE THAT PERSON) Because the more eyes that see this, the more hearts will be stirred into giving. And please, please continue to pray that Selena find answers to her suffering and that she makes a speedy recovery so that she and Roy may go back to enjoying being newlyweds! In addition please continue to send kind words and thoughts Selena’s way and visit her as often as possible. Those gestures of kindness are what will truly help Selena heal.

Thank you friends for your support!

God Bless!
