Selena's Surgery

It is with a heavy heart that I am reaching out for help.
Three years ago, my sister Selena underwent surgery to remove an acoustic neuroma. On September 1, 2018, she underwent a brain MRI and it showed a large area for which the radiologist diagnosed a brain bleed. She was transferred via ambulance to Florida Hospital in Orlando. Upon further review and another MRI, the neurologist at Florida Hospital determined that it was NOT a brain bleed but in fact, a recurrence of the acoustic neuroma. This time, it has grown very large and it measures approximately 4cm and is entangled with nerves. Selena was given IV steroids and kept overnight in the neuro critical care unit. Since Selena is already symptomatic with visual disturbance, headaches, and dizziness, the recommendation is to undergo removal of the neuroma sooner rather than later. The surgery is quite risky because of the size of the neuroma and the involvement with the nerves. It requires two surgeons and is expected to take a full day in the operating room. Risks include partial facial numbness, extremity numbness, one sided body paralysis, possible placement of feeding tube. All of the these risks can be temporary or could be permanent. She will be kept in the neuro critical care unit for 3-5 days and will likely require rehabilitation. The neurologist says that she will likely be unable to work for 4-6 weeks depending on how the surgery goes. Funds donated will be used for expenses incurred related to the surgery/inability to work.
