Seizure Response Dog for Treyton

Treyton is a happy 10 year old boy who loves showing pigs, he is in the 4th grade at Gravette Upper Elementary. He began having seizures just before turning 3. He was diagnosed with Myoclonic-Astatic Epilepsy (MAE), or Doose Syndrome,  an epilepsy syndrome of early childhood that is often resistant to medication. For this reason, it can be difficult to treat. MAE is an idiopathic generalized epilepsy, meaning that there is no known cause for the seizures (idiopathic) and the seizures originate from all over the brain (generalized) as opposed to coming from one focal area. He has been on numerous medications that often work for a short period of time & then his body becomes immune to them. He has once again developed an immunity to his current medication & we are running out of options to try, after an extensive appointment with his neurologist  & being told "he would get worse before he gets better" it was recommended that we get him a seizure response dog. Having this dog by his side would help him gain independence & confidence to do things on his own as it will be specifically trained to not only alert before & when Treyton has a seizure but it will also be trained to protect him during a seizure by rolling him onto his side & crawling under his head to protect him. We will be working with On Command Canine Training in Joplin Mo, it will be a process of selecting a dog & them training it specifically for Treyton & his needs. The total cost for everything is $15,000 which we have to pay $7,500 down just to get started. The sooner we can get the deposit the sooner we can get the process started & give Treyton the freedom & independence every little boy deserves.
