Seizure Alert Dog For Lincoln

Donation protected
Lincoln is a four year old beautiful boy. When he was four and a half months old he began having seizures.  Lincoln has spent way too many nights in hospital due to his uncontrolled seizures. Thankfully, we are more equipped and experienced now and don't end up in hospital like we used to. At two years old, Lincoln was diagnosed with one of the most severe types of Epilepsy, Dravet Syndrome. This syndrome can have devastating impacts on Lincoln's life. The worse being that his life could be cut way too short. It also has life changing developmental impacts that make everyday life very challenging for Lincoln. In December 2017, Lincoln was additionally diagnosed with Autism level 3 (severe), this has caused many more challenges for him. We are currently in the early stages of getting a seizure alert/ASD (autism) assistance dog to help Lincoln live a more normal and independent life. The dog will be trained to alert us before Lincoln is going to have a seizure. This is life changing and potentially life saving. There has been many dangerous situations in which Lincoln has had a seizure. For example, when he fell and smashed a window with his head. The dog would give us a chance to get Lincoln into a safe position before the seizure begins, reducing the risk of injury immensely. Lincoln currently can't be left alone at all in case of a seizure, the dog would allow times of independence as the dog will alert if a seizure occurs. The dog would also allow myself to sleep sounder knowing that I will be alerted if a seizure happens.  The dog will also be trained to deal with challenges associated with Autism. Lincoln has no concept of danger, the dog would provide extra safety as it will stop Lincoln from running onto roads etc. It will also help calm and regulate Lincoln when he is overloaded or in a meltdown. As Lincoln does not have the social skills to interact with other children and he wears things (protective helmet etc) that others may be cautious of, he has a lot of trouble engaging in normal social interactions. Other kids will be drawn to the dog, creating a starting point for a social interaction. For the dog to do all this it has to undertake an extensive two year training program, which is very expensive. The total cost is upwards of $35,000. My family and I are asking for your help to raise the funds to pay for the dog for Lincoln. To start with a group of close family and friends are embarking on the city to bay 12km walk in September to raise funds. We will be doing other fundraising events in the future also. If you are able to donate some money, we would be forever grateful. If you are unable to donate, a share of this page would mean so much as well. Thank you so much
