Seed, Soil, & Spirit School BIPOC Scholarship 2021

Donation protected
UPDATE:
We have raised almost $15,000 for the 2021 Seed, Soil, and Spirit School's BIPOC Scholarships for our 2021 Programming! Thank you to everyone who donated!!! We're closing this fundraiser for 2021 but keep an eye out for 2022's fundraiser and check out our Instagram  to stay up to date on all the amazing courses we're offering in the future!!!

We are fundraising to cover the cost of scholarships for Black, Indigenous, and other racialized students for SEED, SOIL + SPIRT Herbal Medicine School, an herb and sustainable farming school located in Guelph, Ontario and Buffalo, New York. Our school is virtual with hands-on opportunities at our farm in Guelph.

This program is an 8-month course intended for Black, Indigenous, racialized, and allied people who want to learn about plant medicine, legacies of herbalism and caring for the land, plants, and people around us.

Our goal is to uplift and centre the history, living stories, and plant medicine relationships from Indigenous, Diasporic, and decolonial perspectives. We will focus on topics like:
Ancestors & Plantcestors: Connecting with our Lineages Through Plants Decolonizing Herbalism: Liberating the History of Herbal Medicine
Seeds & Soil: Regenerative Agriculture
Ethical & Culturally-Appropriate use of Traditional Knowledges
Becoming EarthWorkers: Building Reciprocity and Ethical Harvesting
Energetics of Foods and Medicines
Basic Anatomy & Physiology for Herbalists
Basic Botany & Plant Identification
In-depth Introduction to Over 25 Plants
Harvesting and Preparing Medicines

Who we are:
Seed, Soil, and Spirit School are hosted and facilitated by herbalists Stephanie Morningstar and Shabina Lafleur-Gangji, both who currently make their home in Dish With One Spoon Wampum Agreement territory (Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe, and Neutral territory in Guelph, Ontario.) This space is essential because racialized people are rarely given the opportunity to learn about plant medicine in a way that feels safe, let alone healing. However, many of our communities have been systemically impoverished for generations, so scholarships are necessary to make this happen. We are running this fundraiser ourselves and the funds will be delivered to our business bank account.

How we're spending your donations:
We are raising $15,000 to cover scholarships for racialized applicants in need of financial support. Update: we have received over 50 applications for partial or full-tuition scholarships totaling $38,750. This support will allow students who would not otherwise participate to join and connect to their ancestral knowledge. Our total budget to run, maintain, and continue building programming is $115,000 annually. We honor as many scholarship requests as possible, but end up paying out of pocket for many of our students' tuition. For more info, check out our website at seedsoilspirit.com
