See the Voice, Be the Change
Tax deductible
On August 4th, 2019, Las Americas will be hosting Manuel and Patricia Oliver from Change the Ref, a non-profit organization devoted to empowering youth voices and enacting change on critical issues affecting our nation. Change the Ref was fouded in memoriam of their son, Joaquin "Guac" Oliver, was one of the 17 victims killed in the Parkland, Florida high-school shooting.
This year, August 4th would have marked Joaquin's 19th birthday. The Oliver family immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in search of a better life for their family, but was met with violence preventable by legislation.
Manuel will be painting a mural on one of Las Americas' walls with a message that is both personal to his family and important for the advocacy that Change the Ref wants to spread about violence and injustice in the U.S.
