Security Community for Sean

Dear friends and colleagues from the security and intelligence communities,
In 2013, I was introduced to Sean Curtis, one of the brightest, young analysts I have ever had the good fortune to meet. Fresh out of university at the time, Sean immediately demonstrated all the talents needed to be an incredible analyst - well-read, curious, hard-working, thirst for knowledge and excellence, commitment to the cause. I spent almost 2 wonderful years working with him and supporting his immense talent in every way possible. Everyone he has worked with knows and valued him for quality, excellence at such a young age and his sense of humour. When he moved on from our team to accept a role at iJet, I was so excited for all the possibility his future held and everything that was to come.
In early December 2017, Sean shared this:
"As some of you may know, I’ve been experiencing significant neuromuscular problems the past 6+ months. Last week I was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease and am beginning treatment shortly. I’ll never hit homers like Lou Gehrig but I’ll try to knock this one out as best I can for the time being."
ALS is a swift, degenerative disease and has no cure. Sean is currently undergoing treatment at Johns Hopkins. He is working from home in his current role for as long as he can but will be moving to New Hampshire with his parents next month. Sean will require the following:
- Cover for medical expenses
- Travel expenses for him, his parents and caregivers
- Additional supporting expenses
- Expenses for assisted living and care
As those who work in security, public and private, we are faced with so many stories that tear through our souls. We work through them, focused on our duty of care. Today, I want to ask that we focus on one of our own - Sean. At 25, Sean loves what he does so much and has so many plans for his present and future.
Let's come together as the security community to show him this love is reciprocated.
