My name is Kirti Patel and I am starting this fundraiser for Cherish Khana, a child in the Flower Mound community, so that she is able to live in her childhood home.
Her mother, Candy (Indian), whom I’ve known closely for the past 15 years, passed away in April 2025 after battling lupus and liver cancer. Cherish’s father (Native American) died of cancer when she was 8. While Candy had no will, she had verbally told Cherish that the house should be hers when she passes on. There are no siblings or immediate family who are able to step in and help.
Cherish lives with developmental and emotional challenges, and her well-being is dependent on stable and familiar surroundings. Being able to live in her home is important for her security, comfort, and hope. When a child’s housing becomes unstable, it opens doors to exploitation and trauma, and we are not letting that happen.
What Help is Needed:
During the years of illness, the household fell behind. Today, there are almost five years of delinquent property taxes to be paid, a final note payoff to be cleared, and basic safety repairs needed so the home remains insurable and truly livable. Government programs will help cover daily care and minor home modifications, but they will not cover taxes and major repairs that are required to make the home livable. The amount raised through this fundraiser will go towards these dues:
1. Tax lien payoff (final amount pending the attorney’s per-diem and fees)
2. Delinquent property taxes (official county payoff)
3. Essential safety repairs for insurance/habitability (utilities, electrical/plumbing checks, secure entry/roof)
My Role:
I have stepped in as Power of Attorney and advocate for Cherish's well-being. For 15 years, I supported Candy through her illness, and now I am helping Cherish secure her future.
I cannot personally provide daily caregiving due to my own health needs, but I am organizing her finances, vendors, and oversight through our nonprofit, Flower Community Power (501(c)(3)).
Transparency & Documentation:
• Donations go to Flower Community Power (501(c)(3)) into a restricted fund for this purpose only.
• We will pay third parties directly (law firm, County Tax Office, licensed contractors/insurers).
• We will post redacted documents—the attorney’s payoff letter, county receipts, and contractor invoices—so you can see your impact.
• For privacy and child safety, we will not post Cherish’s exact address. If a major donor needs verification, we can provide documentation privately.
✨ With your support, Cherish can remain in her mother’s home—the place that represents safety, dignity, and her mother’s last wish.
