She’s our greatest joy, but life has gotten harder since her arrival. My wife stays home to care for our daughter, so we’re down to my income from two jobs. We live in a simple home of sheet metal and wood on a small plot of land, paying $150 a month toward a $9,000 bank mortgage. We also owe $5,000 in debts from loans we took to cover food, baby needs, and past mortgage payments, which keep growing with interest.
