Secondary school fund for KYGN Tanzania

Donation protected

Kilimanjaro Young Girls In Need (KYGN) is a Tanzanian NGO which aim is to improve the opportunities of young girls in the Kilimanjaro Region. What started as a small community project is now a registered school providing education, health care and safe house accommodation to some of the most disadvantaged children in Tanzania.

Moshi-local Annamaria Kanondo is the Founder and Project Director of KYGN. In 2006 she visited the Mabogini area close to Moshi, and was struck by the conditions in which young children, particularly girls, were living. In this region poverty, abuse, abandonment, and the loss of parents often create unsafe home environments and force many girls to leave school and escape home, living on the streets and looking for work at very young ages. Using her own savings and money donated from her family and friends Annamaria set up a small school in the Mabogini area to provide primary education to children who would otherwise never have received it. The school quickly enjoyed huge demand and grew to over 300 children, girls and boys.

All these years, Annamaria and her team have worked hard to provide quality education. The students of 2020's primary 7 class graduated with grace: they got the highest ranking in Moshi and in the Kilimanjaro region, and became the 86th school out of 6641 schools in Tanzania. Now they can continue their studies in good secondary schools, and dream about becoming a doctor, a pilot, an engineer, a teacher, a football player or anything they aspire. Unfortunately, these families can't afford the school fees. A year of boarding school costs around 300$ for residence, books, school supplies, uniform and food.

We have already been able to raise funds for most of the 21 pupils, thanks to the hard work of parents, teachers and volunteers in Tanzania and all over the world. But some girls are still waiting for help. Help these promising girls and contribute to their education by donating anything you can. All the money is transferred directly to the secondary schools in which the students are enrolled.
