Second Chances on Two Wheels: Empower Justice-Involved Individuals in Cumberland County

At Spring Lake Family Support Services (SLFSS), we believe everyone deserves a second chance. Our mission is to Reach Families, Restore Communities, Renew Minds, and RISE (Reaching Independence through Support Services and Education). We are dedicated to helping individuals and families overcome challenges like homelessness, domestic violence, and economic hardship, while supporting justice-involved individuals as they rebuild their lives.

One of the biggest barriers for justice-involved individuals returning from incarceration is reliable transportation. In Cumberland County, North Carolina, many lack access to vehicles or driver’s licenses, making it difficult to secure employment, attend vital appointments, or reconnect with loved ones.

That’s why we’re launching “Second Chances on Two Wheels”—an initiative to provide 50 bicycles to individuals reentering our community. These bicycles will serve as a bridge to independence, stability, and opportunity.

How Your Donations Will Be Used?
We’re dedicated to full transparency. Here’s a breakdown of how your contributions will be spent:
  • Bicycles and Safety Gear - Bicycle, helmet, and lock
  • Repair Kits and Maintenance Workshops - Basic repair tools and access to a maintenance workshop.
  • Program Support and Logistics - Support for program coordination, bicycle delivery, and recipient follow-ups.

Cost Analysis

1. Bicycles and Safety Gear
  • Cost per individual: $200 (includes a bicycle, helmet, and lock)
  • Total cost for 50 individuals: $10,000
2. Repair Kits and Maintenance Workshops
  • Cost per individual: $30 (basic repair tools and access to a maintenance workshop)
  • Total cost for 50 individuals: $1,500
3. Program Support and Logistics
  • Cost per individual: $20 (support for program coordination, bicycle delivery, and recipient follow-ups)
  • Total cost for 50 individuals: $1,000

Total Fundraising Goal: $12,500

With just $250, you can provide one justice-involved individual with transportation and the skills to maintain it—helping them take a meaningful step toward a brighter future.

Why This Matters?
A bicycle isn’t just a way to get from Point A to Point B; it’s a lifeline. It can help someone secure a job, attend education or therapy programs, and rebuild connections with family and community. Most importantly, it represents the chance to reclaim independence and dignity after incarceration. Your support helps break down the barriers that often lead to recidivism, offering a new path to stability and hope.

Transparency and Updates
We believe in complete accountability to our donors. Updates on your contributions will be shared regularly on our website and GoFundMe campaign page, including:
  • Donation Allocation Reports - detailed breakdowns showing how every dollar is spent.
  • Recipient Stories - profiles of individuals who receive bicycles, highlighting how this initiative has changed their lives; like securing jobs, attending education programs, or reconnecting with their families.
  • Visual Updates - photos and videos of bicycle distributions, workshops, and recipients putting their new mobility to use.

By keeping you informed, we aim to build trust and showcase the tangible impact of your generosity.

How You Can Help?
  • Donate Today, every contribution—big or small—brings us closer to providing second chances to those who need them most.
  • Any amount helps us get closer to our goal of transforming lives.

If you can’t donate, you can still make a difference by sharing this campaign with your friends, family, and social networks.
