As we all know, Seattle is getting hit hard by the COVID-19 coronavirus. Schools are closed. Businesses are closed. Life as we know it has dramatically changed. While all parents are working out how to manage their lives, this is especially hard-hitting for single mothers who don't have a safety net.
This relief fund is aimed at offering grants of up to $200 to single mothers in Seattle experiencing financial difficulty due to Corona/COVID-19. Funding is intended to provide financial assistance to families who are undergoing economic hardship due to the Corona pandemic. Grants may be used by families who have emergency requests related to medical, childcare, housing (rent or mortgage), or grocery needs.
67% of all single mothers and their children are living in poverty in the United States.
This fundraiser might not change that statistic but it can changed their lived experience right now. Your donations will help with childcare and basic needs like food and rent and will hopefullykeep these families from becoming homeless.
Imagine you can't go to work because your child's school is closed. Imagine that your kids were being fed at school because you have been on the free lunch program and now you have to figure out how to feed them with no money coming in. Imagine that you can't pay for the medicine your child needs. Imagine you have nobody to call to help you out. This is the current lived reality for many single mothers. They need our help.
While there are government programs available, they don't cover all expenses and there is often a lag time between applying for them and receiving benefits. That's what this relief fund is for. Please donate today.
100% of the proceeds will go to the applicants.
To anyone who has read this far: Thank you for your interest in making lives better for Seattle families. May this difficult time find you strong and healthy.
We will get through this. Together.
