FIRS Mobile Home Brushfire Recovery
In the evening of August 20, amidst the smoke from wildfires and summer heat, two mobile homes in the FIRS Mobile Home Park in SeaTac were completely destroyed by a nearby brush fire. Fortunately, the two families with their children were able to escape quickly without harm, but their homes and belongings were unsalvageable.
These two families are part of the FIRS Mobile Park Association, a community of 50 Latino families, including 90 children, who last year rose up to save their community against the landowner who wants to build a hotel. Many of these families have lived at this site for decades. The landowner has tried to evict this entire community, but through a united front of community, allies and elected officials this community has stood its ground.
But now they need your help today in the face of this new tragedy. We need to raise $25,000 to buy two used mobile homes (approximately $10k each) for these families to live in and to replace the personal belongings that were lost in the fire – furniture, beds, blankets, kitchenware, and clothes so that the children can go to school and the parents can go to work. These families prefer a gift card donation to buy their clothing. In the interim, these families also need to have temporary housing.
Please help fund this as soon as possible, as the Gonzalez and Pedraza families are currently without homes, school starts in two weeks and fall and winter will soon be here. Each Family has a child 16 months boy and 15 years old girl.
