Nicole's Health Fund

Donation protected
This fundraiser is for an amazing and mighty woman and friend, Nicole Vanderheiden. Nicole has been a strong and celebrated activist in the transgender and LGBTQ community -- her advocacy efforts have helped countless queer and trans youth and veterans. She is also a former Staff Sergeant of the U.S. Air Force and an Iraq war veteran. Despite all she has done for her community and her country, she has not gotten the same measure of support back from her healthcare providers.

Nicole was recently informed that she has been denied an important portion of her medically necessary transition-related healthcare -- simply because she is transgender. While the State of Minnesota bans such blatant forms of medical discrimination, the TWO healthcare plans she has, both through her federal employer and through the Department of Veterans Affairs, are not beholden to state regulations. Since she is unable to get coverage for the standard procedures she is seeking, she will have to source the funds herself. Sadly, we're all aware that without coverage, funding ANY medical procedure yourself is prohibitively expensive.

Until the rest of the world is ready to step up for people like Nicole, we've decided it's up to us. So we are asking you to help us honor her and raise funds for her care!

In addition to this online crowd funding campaign, we are also hosting a short but sweet ART FUNDRAISING SHOW! Twin Spirits Distillery in Minneapolis has generously donated their space for the show, which will open Saturday, Sept. 29 at 6:00 p.m. and will run until Friday, Oct. 5th at 10:00 p.m. We will be selling art and prints on opening and closing nights for this benefit. 100% of proceeds from this crowd funding campaign and the art show will go directly to pay for Nicole’s medical expenses.

Thank you so much for taking the time to support our friend! In addition to making a small (or large!) donation, you can help us get the word out about our fundraising efforts by sharing this campaign on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms. If we all give just a little time and money, it will go a long way toward improving the life of our dear friend.
