Sean's Mission to Texas and Haiti

Sean landed in Haiti on September 6th and began to organize for the pending hurricane. He helped set up mobile clinics at the airport that would be ready to deploy after the hurricane had passed, along with a temporary morgue for the expected casualties.
As most of you know, Hurricane Irma glanced off the Dominican Republic and away from Haiti. The damage to Haiti was thankfully much less significant than predicted, and after an aerial assessment of the island, the search and rescue teams were stood down. Sean remained in Haiti for a few days working for volunteer ambulance services there, before returning to the US. He is now back in London.
Sean has asked me to convey his heartfelt thanks to all of you for your support. Your money directly contributed to a person making a direct difference to those affected by these hurricanes.

I've just received an update from Sean. He has had a very busy 5 days in Houston, working in medical clinics in very badly damaged areas. Their primary focus is on undocumented migrants, most of who have not contacted the authorities for help because they fear deportation.
With the formation of Category 5 Hurricane Irma in the Atlantic Ocean, Sean has now been asked to fly into Haiti ahead of the storm to help with their emergency response. He has stocked up with supplies and is currently on a plane and will land in Port-au-Prince this afternoon. Irma is due to hit Haiti tomorrow.
Sean was in Haiti last year for hurricane relief, so he knows the area and is in a good position to provide instant relief. He has a bunk in a safe building in Port-au-Prince to wait out the storm, and he will then spend 7 days traveling to remote areas to assist with clinics.
I'm reactivating the fundraiser to cover the new costs Sean has incurred. Thank you all for your support of Sean's work to-date, and for helping with this unexpected twist in his latest journey.

Many of you know my brother Sean. He's an EMT in London, training towards being a paramedic. Many of you will also know that Sean is a humanitarian. Every year he volunteers with charity organizations to travel to parts of the world in need. In the past 2 years he has travelled 4 times to regions of need following natural disasters. Haiti, Nepal, and the Philippines (twice).
Sean travels as part of a team of 5-6 people: 1 doctor, 3-4 paramedics, and 1-2 EMTs. They travel to remote areas that have been cut off from aid, using motorbikes, 4WD, and even helicopters - and set up medical field clinics. On average, they treat 180-200 per day for up to 10 days.
Sean is a founding member of an organization called Mobile Medics International (MMI), a charity that was setup by Sean and the colleagues he met through his work. Visit the MMI website (and read the "Read this First" guide to volunteering) to get a tiny sense of what Sean goes through on his missions.
Following the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey on the Texas coast of the USA, MMI has been in contact with multiple agencies to gauge their need for assistance. The Fire Department and local hospitals have requested qualified EMT, paramedics, and nurses to relieve their staff who have been on duty since the hurricane hit. Sean leaves on Friday Sept 1 for an 8-day stay in the region of Texas worst affected.
What many of you don't know is that Sean funds these trips himself. He takes personal vacation time, pays for the flights, and always takes a lot of supplies to use and leave behind in the countries he visits. Sean uses a lot of his time and money to help those less fortunate - and this is where we can help him. Sean's next trip is to Texas, in a country that has an excellent infrastructure - so he won't face many of his usual challenges. But he still needs to get there and back. If every time Sean goes on a mission we can cover the cost of his flights and supplies, Sean can focus on what he does best - saving lives.
