The purpose of this fundraising initiative is to assist Sean "Red" Prosser with medical expenses needed to help him regain the use of his arm.
Sean fell on an icy sidewalk on his way to work on Jan 12, 2019, tearing his bicep from the shoulder, including both posterior and anterior tendon connections, requiring surgical intervention to repair. This injury has caused him to have limited use of his (dominant) left arm, including the ability to lift his arm. This has impacted his ability to do a great many things, and his overall quality of life. He remains in constant pain in his arm and shoulder while he waits for the surgery he needs.
In order to get the surgery, he needs an MRI to determine the full nature of the injury and scope of surgery needed. He was lucky enough to get an expedited appointment in Halifax for March 5, but the machine was too small for him to be able to hold the required position for the duration of time necessary to capture the images. He is now waiting to be added to the bottom of a new list at the Truro hospital, where there is a more suitable machine. The wait to be added for an appointment, including the date for the appointment itself is undetermined at this time.
There is an immediate need to raise $2600 for Sean to be able to get an MRI at a private facility that has an "open style MRI", in hopes to get his surgery faster and start the path to recovery. Once he finally has the surgery, he will be facing anywhere from one to four months recovery time, depending on the surgery, as well as several months of rehabilitation afterward. During his recovery, it is undetermined if work will be possible, or if it will be restricted, all of which will directly result in lost or reduced income, making living expenses very difficult.
Despite having a tough shell, Sean is very kind-hearted and has spent the majority of his life giving back to the community through dedicated work and tireless volunteer efforts for various organizations, events, and countless charities, most recently for Kids Help Phone through a club he leads for the past several years. It would be amazing to see this kindness returned in a small way now that he is the one needing the help.
