El estudio de mi papá, Charles Brewer-Carías se quemó por completo. Todo quedó reducido a cenizas. Más de 70 años de investigación, fotografías, libros, dibujos... todo, TODO se acabó en este terrible incendio. Este incendio empezó por un corto circuito en un deshumidificador que teníamos para proteger toda esta herencia de la humedad. El calor era tan fuerte que el techo colapsó. Menos mal que papá, mi hermano y mi mamá hicieron todo lo posible para evitar que se quemara el resto de la casa. Es para mí muy duro y difícil empezar a imaginar el valor de todo lo que hemos perdido. Si ven la foto de la portada pueden ver una pared. Es la primera vez que veo esa pared desde que se construyó la casa. Estaba llena de libros, más de 5000 libros de cualquier cantidad de tópicos que usábamos como referencia, además de los libros escritos por mi papá, sus equipos de trabajo, fotografías de sus primeras expediciones cuando aún no existía el mundo digital y bueno, infinidad de material valiosísimo para nuestro país. Queremos empezar a reconstruir todo desde las cenizas y continuar con los trabajos que teníamos pendientes, como el libro sobre juegos de cuerdas Ye'kuana o el libro sobre las plantas utilizadas por los indígenas Ye'kuana y Yanomami. Por otra parte, luego del incendio mis padres recibieron varias visitas que los expusieron al virus COVID-19, del cual se están recuperando en este momento. Nos gustaría contar con tu ayuda. Cada granito de arena es un gran apoyo. Estamos inmensamente agradecidos de todo el apoyo que nos puedan brindar en esta situación tan difícil. MUCHAS GRACIAS. Quisiera aclarar un poco la razón por la cual estamos solicitando su colaboración: Dentro de lo que se quemó hay cosas que son irrecuperables ( libros, mapas, fotografías, material recopilado a lo largo de más de 200 expediciones ). Es realmente una pérdida al patrimonio cultural indígena de Venezuela y del mundo. Pero hay otras cosas que, si bien es cierto no se pueden recuperar, se pueden adquirir de nuevo como lo son parte del equipo de fotografía, microscopios, discos duros, computadoras, etc. Que también se quemaron. Otra cosa que afortunadamente no se quemó, es todo el conocimiento que está en las vivencias, experiencias y viajes de papá. Para esto también necesitamos de tu apoyo, para poder publicar los 4 proyectos en los que estamos trabajando: - Libro sobre juegos de cuerdas yekuana. - Libro sobre plantas del mundo perdido. - Libro sobre plantas usadas por los indígenas yekuana. - Libro sobre plants usadas por los indígenas Yanomami Más que nunca estos libros pasan a ser prioritarios porque son el nuevo legado. Una recopilación de esos 70 años de experiencia. He has led more than 250 scientific expeditions to the Amazon, published a dozen books, discovered the world's largest quartzite cave and 27 plants, reptiles, insects, and has a scorpion named in his honor. His contributions to science earned him an honorary member position at the New York Botanical Garden.   His studio, located at his home, burned down. The fire started from a short circuit in a dehumidifier that was running to protect his work and findings from humidity. The heat was so intense that the roof collapsed. Luckily, my Dad, along with my brother and my mom were able to stop the fire from spreading to the rest of the house.   It is challenging to quantify the loss. More than 70 years of research, photographs, books, and journals disappeared in this terrible fire. The flames consumed more than 5000 books and all the equipment that allowed him to work (including computers, photographic equipment, and hard drives). Furthermore, the visits of firefighters and friends interested in helping exposed them to COVID-19.   They are currently recovering slowly from this. Although the fire hit us very hard, it also boosted my father's desire to keep working on a new set of books. We want to ask you for your collaboration to help my father regain his health, rebuild the studio, replace the broken equipment and publish these books. Decades after, due to the exposure and influence of western culture, he discovered this ancestral knowledge was lost and wants to reintroduce it.  - a Book on plants of the lost world. Recollection of the unique plants that are present on the Tepuis (i.g. Guiana Highlands of South America) Books on plants used by the Yekuana and Yanomami tribes: The plants represent the greatest resource for the indigenous people.
